Carbon V Alu Hardtail

If you had to choose between a CARBON or ALU HT, assuming the same spec, weight and cost which would you choose?

Usage would be mainly club course, commuting and maybe the occasional Djouce type spin.

Feel free to elaborate as to why.

Carbon..yes
why because its sexy and all the good lads ride one
Aluminium ..No
Because it smells like old cabbage and Alan Ayling..
I don't think that could be simpler

Carbone of course, who cares if it cracks and comes apart in shards, its way cooler. When people say nice bike man, you can go yeah man, its carbone. And when people who don’t bike ask you about your bike you can do the old, yeah well most bikes are made out of metal, but I prefer carbone. When kids see you a traffic lights and go ‘is da carbin’, you can say ‘no young man, its carbone’.

Thats a lie, Herlihy..I'm the only person in Ireland on a Carbone..it has a hole in it but otherwise structurally and aesthetically pleasing..and here on the Southside ,even the scobie children can speak properly !
I thought you'd be busy making up rules to upset people !

never understood the carbon fixation.. until I got one.
feels so different and soooooooo sweet
yes, you will eventually break it, but you're worth it

Well since you asked Mr Byrne, have you read this one?


'4.2.056
The organiser shall provide a motorcycle to mark the front of the race (“lead bike“), anda motorcycle to mark the rear of the race (“sweep bike“). The lead bike must display on its front the number of laps remaining in the race.'

fair enough, but have you read this one?

4.2.027 Wherever possible, roots, tree stumps, protruding rocks, etc. will be covered in biodegradable fluorescentpaint.

The course must be marked every kilometre by a sign indicating the distance remaining to the finish line.

Right then, this is an important one....

4.1.029 The organiser of the event shall provide at least six dancing ladies to the commissaires' panel to allow the commissaires to properly carry out their duties. These ladies must be for the sole use of the commissaires' panel and be of high spirits. An area must be designated in which the commissaires' panel can carry out their duties it must be equipped with a large supply of Beers, Wines and assorted Meat products.

Now wait a second.

Aluminium is better because...
Things like 7up, Irn Bru and Harp taste way better out of aluminium cans than out of bottles. And plastic like they use in 7up bottles is 80+% carbon. So Alu has to be better. Scientific fact.

By contrast, Tennents comes in a steel can and it's horrible. So don't buy a steel frame whatever you do.

(Byrner I thought you liked my aluminous musk? )
