Parking at Ticknock.

I was at the Coillte information evening last night for the trails on Ticknock. We will put something up later on that, but one thing that was very evident is that the locals are very upset about the number of cars parking outside the barriers in the evenings.

Coillte are looking into what options they have in terms of leaving them open longer, also I understand the locals are petitioning the council for double yellow lines. It would appear from what the locals say that there are a good number of bikers parking out on the road, especially on Tuesday & Thursday evenings. They reckon it was about 50/50 with bikers and walkers. Apart from the issues with the cars, people getting changed also seemed to be an issue, one elderly lady mentioned that she had seen more bare arses than she would care to.

Anyway things are moving forward up there and the plan is to have trails in place before the end of the year. There will have to be a more permanent solution found to the parking issues, but until something is worked out it would be good if we could do our part to elevate some of the tension with the locals.

The hill is surrounded with pubs and car parks which can be used as an alternative, could people try where possible to park away form the forest entrance in the evenings and ride to the place.

on that note, the owners of Lambe Doyles Pub would be delighted to see Mountainbikers using their car park, and go in afterwards for a pint..I was approached by the owner and he said hes happy to let people park there provided they would come in and have a beer after..which sounds fair to me, besides if you park there you finish on the boneshaker or the Dream track..which in anybodies language is way better than finishing outside Ticknock !

Just out of curiosity, did they say Sean why it was upsetting them? That road is wide enough for big truck to go through easily even with cars parked on the side. Is it the noise? Not that I ever park there, just interested why they don't like it...

And I suppose the old ladies could just look away when they see people changing but they probably cant resist the temptation... those well hung mtbers must be something they haven't seen for a while

Parking at Lamb Doyles makes perfect sense. Same goes for the Blue Light.

This situation justs highlights what a complete farce it is that with an amenity like the Dublin Mountains on our doorstep, the powers-that-be do not have the foresight to provide basic infrastructure such as a suitable car park so people can enjoy the amenity - walkers, runners, mtbers - whoever. And by the Powers-that-be, I'm not thinking Coillte here - they just get landed with the sh1t and get blamed for everything - the responsibility surely lies with the civic authorities, in this case S Dublin Co Co.

Hopefully the work of the DMP can move us all out of this pathetic situation and let get things to a stage where we can all make the best use of the hills without pissing off the locals. Thankless work, too. Trying to get joined-up thinking going in this country is a huge challenge.

And the grannies - the filthy minded oul' wans from Harry Enfield's TV Program spring to mind... "ooooh, young maaaaan!"

That's exactly what sprang to my mind too... worrying, that!

Many of them seem to have been blocked in by inconsiderate parking.

i don't know what kind of truck they drive in Poland..Maxi but its not wide enough for a car when the flutes keep parking down the road..these people live there and have a holes just parking where they like, leaving crap behind half the time and generally making a nuisance..just like the fools at Djouce and Barnaslingan..whatever about Djouce..but if you live in Dublin and can't park in the nearest pub and ride up to the " trailhead " then you are an arsehole that doesn't belong in the Mountainbike Community..
We are in a way better position as users than any other Country and while I dislike rules as much as the next guy..come on people its only cop on and courtesy is needed..then again its very unlikely anybody on here but random riders who think that the trails magically appeared and that Mountainbiking didn't exist until they came along !!
