everybodies going to this..
If you are not a savage do the 20k Loop and enjoy riding somewhere new..if you are even a pale savage..do the 50k..
This is an opportunity to ride a new place and Carlingford and the Cooley Peninsula is breathtaking..
Djouce and 3 rock are going nowhere..do it as a single rider or do it as a group..
Bring plenty of water and food and spares..
There will be food stations in a couple of places !!
This is a big undertaking for a club like Cuchulainn..and they are all gentlemen so lets support them..

I am planning on doing this as my first race ever. Did about half the course last weekend and it wasn't too bad, but I will be extremely slow. I guess the full course will take me 5 hours+. Maybe I should just do the short course.
If anyone wants to come up this way on Friday I can take you down the black and rollercoaster runs on the Ravensdale side of the course for a wee practice.
Ed as your first race ever its not a good choice..do the 20k..
what will happen is the race will start and you'll get carried away with the race head..by the time you get to the masts you will be toast !
the 20k might seem a bit short but..you get a lot for it on the way back...and you won't be comatose by the end.
make damn sure you drink about 2 litres of water the day before over the entire day ( not in one go )
and eat a big feed of Spuds the evening before..and a decent breakfast the morning of the race..
and warm up good and warm before the race !!
I did the short route with my wife a couple of years ago and she loved it..you can't beat coming down Slieve Foye with Carlingford lough in front of you and the Mournes just in the distance at the end and not be banjoed ..
Thanks for the advice. You are probably right. I was planning on staying behind and just keeping my own slow pace, but then I'd probably take all day and be completely fooked.
So I'll probably do the short course as you suggest.
I did this last year. Well worth it, some excellent fun trails up there that we don't get to ride very often. Just keep an eagle eye out for the route markers.
If you're not used to long days in the saddle, give the short version a go. The long will only be misery unless you're up to it, in which case it will be sweeeet.
Sadly I'm otherwise engaged* this year, but good luck to all those racing.
Deadly so half hour from de airport in the Subaru, I've just gone from 6 points to 0 so very tempted to gun it,once again.maybe we could go up in one of your track cars mikkky!!
I may be going alone as my friend broke his bike !! I'll know tomorrow for definite !! so I might pool in with you ,Trance !!
theres a new name for you Trance !!
