more BMX Racing

I keep posting this sort of thing because some of you seem to enjoy it....
Here's the last two rounds of the UK BMX Nationals in Bournmouth, good footage of Ireland current no.1 BMXer Kelvin Batey, he's in red with 55 on the plate and talking a lot, footage includes the round 11 final where he bounced off the leader while going for the win and the round 12 final where he moved from last to 2nd. That type of action is typical of BMX racing. Kelvin finished the series Elite no.2, not bad for a PE teacher.

Whats the story with Irelands number 1 BMXer and his english accent??Was he born here but lives in England or something??

His ma is from Limerick! He was born in and grew up in Britain and qualified Britain for the 2008 Olympics, then British Cycling dumped him when he was injured at the British Olympic trials which they ran to pick who would ride for Britain in the spot that he burst his arse qualifying for.
Britain's loss = Ireland's gain. Lovely bloke, awesome bike rider.

When we get a track built here I'll get him over and you can squeeze into your sexy HARO Race gear and dust off old Ultra Burner and have a shot at him. I'd pay an entry fee to see that!

Will Kelvin get an entry into the London Olympics to represent Ireland or does he have to qualify as an individual via the UCI BMX Supercross world rounds?

Countries don't automatically qualify, you have to have riders at the top of the world rankings to get places, Latvia, the US and Australia will probably be able to send 3 riders each, UK will send one from rankings and one as the host.
Right now his world ranking is high enough to get one of the measly 30 or so spots available. That comes mainly from his performance at the Worlds in South Africa where he was 2nd in the 1/4's before crashing you also get point from the motos' so he did well there, he's also World no. 4 on Cruiser but that doesn't count in the Olympics. He's had a lot of crashes in the Supercross events this year but if it was an olympic Year he's be there. He's 30 now so hopefully he'll stick at it and give us some one to cheer in 2012.
