Hi Guys, was up in Ballinastoe last night 24/9 and when I got back to my car the one beside it had the rear screen smashed, looks like we may have disturbed them approx 7.10 but looks like its becoming a no go area because of these scumbags breaking into cars, I also found A SET OF KEYS if any lost them let me know.
Yes there are a daily thing up there now..I dont know why people dont park in the village and cycle over its only 10/15min and everything is safe..there even camaras in the village..Why do people have to park at the trail end/start..some are not happy unless they park on the feckin trails..
Thats the sh*t right there , Skip..most people who ride Ballinagoober every weekend couldn't manage the spin from Roundwood to the trailhead..they'd be bollixed.
But come on, Coillte provided the trails..they should really do something about the parking.
Ballinastoe might not be much compared to other places but its definitely the most popular trail in the Country , it makes no sense not to have the same set up there as in Ballyhoura !!
Could you imagine the money that you would make ..
Theres a Coffee shop at the Golfcourse down on the other road at the Junction, i think it closes in the Winter..they should try and coax the MTBers in to the place at Weekend..park there, ride up, come back down get a latte and a pink Snack and away you go..

Hi there i did notice some people trying to get into their green 323i beemer which was parked right at the entrance they obviously lost their keys not sure how u will contact them apart from asking around who owned the beemer at the gate
it wasn't break in. It was stone that smashed the window after one guy drove his car faster then he suppose to. Was there at that moment, big mess.
One day they broke in to my car... but that was just accident.
Parked in Roundwood yesterday as a precaution and just cycled up the road. It's a handy 15/20 min pedal up and was well worth the piece of mind. Will be doing that from now on.
eeee not true. i used to hang around with a caving club in Poland. Friends of mine got their ropes stolen (you leave the rope hanging) a few times and they couldn't get out and had to be rescued... You cannot leave a sandwich without keeping an eye on it. If there was a price for ****, they'd steal it from under your arse before it falls down.
They break into cars as well.
Only a guard and paid parking will make these places safer. Or CCTV (reading reg numbers and recording stuff). Even a guy selling HOT DOGs from his truck would do
This is not only about MTBikers. Some people have kids and they wanna park there just to have a walk.
Or kids on the bikes - they'll not cycle from roundwood.
And first of all, they should know if they get catched they will be sorry. Maybe then stealing 30 quid from somebodys glove box wouldn't be that tempting.
Luka, i caught 2 scumbags breaking in to my Van at the Leadmines a few years ago..I beat two of them with my shovel and smashed up their car, I'm pretty certain I broke one of their legs and I definitely broke both their noses..
but the break ins kept happening..I think theres more of them than you imagine.
The Car parks need attending..there are hundreds of scobie wandering the Wicklow hills looking for kicks.
Nits make Lice as they say and there are generations of little ones waiting to take the place of the older ones..and for them its a handy way to rob and get their kicks.
some sort of genetic weapon is the only way to end the scourge of the scobie.
i know it's been said a hundred times before but people should stop leaving gear worth stealing in there cars, even on the boot. the last time i say the break ins in Djouce they were breaking the back passenger windows, pulling the back seats forward and rooting around in the boot. Sat nav holders and the like are another attraction, even the mark a sat nav holder leaves will attract. A good friend of mine was stationed in stepaside and told me these gnuts are driving over from tallaght on the off chance.....
