I don't know Alfie but I hope there is one, I really enjoyed last year! I spoke to the guys from Ballyhoura at the AGM and they told me that they weren't doing it this year! A shame because it was an ideal location, with relatively little trail building required.
There haven't been any official applications to run the Marathon Champs yet this year.

is 2011 going to be the worst Cross country season ever Morgan? 7 rnds now in the nps with no XC Nationals either, I know you won't take this personally Morgan but what the f*ck is going on ?

Now I've been approached by several people to run the XC Nationals but I won't..why dig CYcling Ireland and the Commission out. Normally I'd say fcuk it and do it anyway but when you think that EPIC have been running top notch XC races for years and decided in 2011 not to for various reasons , nobody had the guts or brains to coax us to.
This " waiting for Clubs to volunteer " bullsh1t is going to get us nowhere..Clubs need to be encouraged and assisted to run events by Cycling Ireland and the Offroad Commission.
If I was them I'd be asking Tony Kelly and Cuchulallain to run the XC Nationals in Bellurgan or Johnny mcCabe and Cuchullain to run the marathon Champs.
I'd find some way to sweeten them up, like paying for their one day licences. or doing away with that ridiculous charge for National Medals.
Make it attractive for clubs to run events..I've heard a lot of Guff about EPIC raising the bar too high this year. Thats typical Oirish begrudgery, if people want to be proud of what they are part of then they should just man up and get stuck in.

Nothing against Niall Davis and his Blitz idea but hes a business and the Commission is going to help fund his series by paying for the one day licences of the entrys there..

THe MBCC with some help on the marshalling front from Trailriders ( the local mtb club ) and coillte , ran the marathon champs this year ( our first national event ) , As we are holding an Nps xc round this year , we want to see how that goes first , as the marathon champs was a Huge commitement as it was pretty much one lap . But thoughts are if we do hold it it will be 30/35 km laps starting from the Donneraile side as that is where all the good natural trails are . So be nice to us after our Nps round
