Biking in Tenerife

Hello,
does anyone know if there's any sort of mountain biking around Tenerife, going to be going over on a family holiday in February and want to bring a bike over with me, but not sure which one... going to be road bike if there's no trails, hardtail if there's only small hills around or the 6 inch machine if there's some actuall mountains around.

Any info would be appreciated... I know absolutely nothing about the area, just thought I'd ask here before spending days searching google for info!

Hi Greg,

The island is one big "mountain" with El Teide sitting at the centre rising up to 3718m above sea level.

Legally we can ride from about 2400m down, the rest being in the National Park and prohibited for MTB'ers to take to the trails there.

But we have plenty of trails to keep everyone happy, from full on DH to scenic loops taking in the best views on the island. The road biking is pretty good too, but I leave that to others.

Thanks for the replies lads, pretty much all the info I could need in there!
Just one more question though, it'll be "Playa Les Americas" that I'd be going to, are any of the trails within cycling distance from there as it'll be the only way I'll have of getting around over there.

Not a great deal within riding distance of Playa de Las Americas as it's so built up around there. There are a couple of small areas, sandwiched between the motorway and the La Caleta area which has a few trails and the other to the side of the resort of Palm Mar which is the next resort around past Los Cristianos.

Obviously, if you choose to come out with us then we drive you to the best trails :)
