Ex EPICmtb and Coillte tree Fiddler Rudolf Brinkman won a big trophy at the weekend for outstanding Cycling with his new Club. Its poiunts based and he had to fight off the triathletes for it.
Probably the finest example of a Dutchman living in Ireland. All the other Dutch people I know are raving mental cases who think irish people are still living in Round towers throwing books at Vikings..

It's not as rude as it appears...
"Dutch legend has it that there was once a small boy who upon passing a **** on his way to school noticed a slight leak as the sea trickled in through a small hole. Knowing that he would be in trouble if he were to be late for school, the boy pocked his finger into the hole and so stemmed the flow of water. Some time later a passerby saw him and went to get help. This came in the form of other men who were able to effect repairs on the **** and seal up the leak.
This story is told to children to teach them that if they act quickly and in time, even they with their limited strength and resources can avert disasters. The fact that the Little Dutch Boy used his finger to stop the flow of water, is used as an illustration of self-sacrifice. The physical lesson is also taught: a small trickle of water soon becomes a stream and the stream a torrent and the torrent a flood sweeping all before it, **** material, roadways and cars, and even railway tracks and bridges and whole trains."
Many of us have stories of Rudolf, my favourite was this..
it was an early night spin in 2009..and we were tipping along through Powerscourt on our way to Maulin when Al Sarhan says to Rudolf
" So , why do they call you Rudolf ?"
" Ish my names, you stoopid Arab !" relies Rudolf in his funny accent !
Then there was that time at the Dh Champs when he took on the most savage DH track in Ireland on a Cross Country bike and I was comparing the Dutch Armys battle with the Polish Army and me and Alfie were discussing with Rudolf and Max who would win, the Dutch on their Bicycles or the Polish on their Horses..
Cheers, no doubt i learnt my mtb skills in Epicmtb. Had a great year going to all the mtb races and racing for 795. Finaly got to beat Rory in the Castlewellan race. Plenty of memories of Epic spins including the Rock of death of Camanderry and the club league. Hope to see you all on the 20th of March for the Racing 795 Leinster league rnd 1.
