It never got off the ground as an official trail. So don't go Contacting Coillte about it. It was first built by Denis Brennan and Knud and his boys ( and a heap of other Greystones residents) back in the 90's .
It always astonishes me that people think that the trails in Dublin and Wicklow were built just for them.
You could count on two hands , the names of the main trailbuilders in Dublin and Wicklow.
Actually you could name the best ones on one hand.
And I don't mean the diggers, I mean the lads who actually saw a place to build and just went out and did it.
when you consider the closeness of 3 rock to Dublin theres only ever been a handful of pioneers and when you consider the volume of riders up there , its astonishing to think that the people who did the most work live the furthest away from it!!

John Pennefather and Bob were the first to build in the area, most of their stuff is gone now due to felling.
Then Sean Herlo as a young teenager.
Then Sean Travers..the Happy Bunny trail..which was a combination Herilhy/travers sort of a thing long gone but sort of replaced by Romper Schlomper.
Dagget Power did a fair bit , also destroyed.
The Worcies did a huge amount all over the place , in particular KDM being a Classic and Aggro.
I also contributed but never named the things..
And then most recently Fergal Kilkenny,
but my point is that when you think of the amount of trails built around the place , only very few can claim them.
I can't believe Fergal used to come from some place in the Midlands just to dig..and Herlo, well he never had a car, he had to cycle from Donnycarney with his tools to dig, on a bike I was throwing out..
My point being , Trailbuilders are very few and very far between but theres an army of *******s out there that have no problem riding their trails and never acknowledging the effort some eejit with a shovel , who couldn't get the idea for a trail out of his head, had to go out and dig , always in atrocious conditions and always with a risk of personal injury...( the Culchie will tell you a fine story about a lunatic with a chainsaw , swinging out of a tree and surfing it to the ground )..
Once again I apologise Lunka..as somebody whos built a few trails myself..I'm ****ed if i want somebody else to take the credit for my efforts..I'm sure Fergal has a few stories to tell about his trail building and I know Sean has but to those who know me, when you consider what a severe phobia I have about a particular creature, trail building is one of the scariest things i've ever done!

I have posted this tread cos I have moved nearby and today for a first time I've decided to explore local woods, got across this trails. They are very handy for after work spins and I'll be cycle there, therefore I did want to tight with someone to help maintaining them.
i don't believe anybodys looking after them..but theres no reason why you don't just get stuck in yourself..
just bear in mind that jumps and wooden structures, the pulling down of walls and fences and painting arrows on the rocks and trees are a no no..John Damage on here spends a lot of time in there..PM him for his opinion.

On a small point of order, the Happy Bunny Trail is still there, other than one annoying fallen tree across it and a patch of mud 10 foot across it's completely rideable. Has fallen out of use though, probably because Romper is so close. There's a nice line down a big slab to the right of the HB as well, Greg made us go down it one night a while back. Not as scary as the Happy Bunny slab.
Oh, and ColinB really ought to be on your list of the Named Men of Trailbuilding!
yeah, myself and Alfie had a look at the HB trail only recently and noticed somebody had cleared it..
You and ColinB didn;t get a mention in my list of Named Men because I was talking about the trails on 3 rock.

I was building the bottom of Romper back a while ago - really windy/stormy day, it was likely the only day I have EVER not had the MP3 player banging out Anthrax and Iron Maiden while I was swinging mattocks and spades, and the only reason I didn't bother bringing the headphones was because I think there was one other mindless eejit who said he was going to join me for a dig - can't remember who it was but unsurprisingly he never turned up, sure why would he? the whole fecking hill was swaying in the storm
anyway, I was putting the little berm together just before you climb out from the forest floor and I heard a really big creak - much bigger and louder than the other creaking
then I heard a crunch and the sound of roots snapping and looked up and this monster fupper of a tree was bouncing all over the place
I knew it was coming down but no idea which way, another big crunch and dirt started flying up from the roots - I thought zombies were coming up out of the dirt, I dropped the mattock and just ran
BOOOSHHHHH! down came the tree 5 feet from where I had been building the berm - frightened the shyte out of me, if I had had my tunes blasting I never would have heard the feckin thing groaning in the ground until it was on top of me
how sad and ridiculous would it have looked to have been killed by a tree while out digging - jaysus!
needless to say I don't go digging in storms anymore, but just about any other weather is fair game
apparently MXers are ripping along the new Coillte trail above Satellite Run now - poxers - and the goobers will eventually discover all the secret stuff up there and ride it till it falls apart
I used to get really annoyed, but now there's no point - it's as unavoidable as death and taxes
watch yourselves on Romper now - because of some recent trees falling onto the trail we re-routed it on Saturday - the Suicide line is now the Supercide line - extended it to make it mad steep all the way to the bottom, with a few new option lines added, it doesn't look easy at all.... :D
Hi lunka01 I'm out in Greystones too. We could meet up and at least clear away the trees that are currently blocking the tracks.. PM me to arrange a time....
you know, if different clubs took ownership of forests, they'd all be in great shape. Like ourselves with the Leadmines ( though theres still lowlife gob****es insisting on making shortcuts through our hardwork up there) . Kindlestown was the original Goober mecca before Ballinastoe came along and its a great resource.
Talk to Oisin as well.
I live in the area too. Give me a shout sometime and I'll show you some trails over the other side of the N11 up on the hill. Coillte have been busy up there recently though so the place is a bit worse for wear at the moment - once they finish a few off us could get everything cleared again in an afternoon.
