Maulin from Djooce ! and back again !! not for the faint hearted.
Tuesday Hour of Power Djouce 9.30am Tuesday 15th Feb
my god..
I've been a paddler and a Mountaineer but fcuk me thats the coldest and wettest I've ever been in my life !
I left Pottery Road at 8.30 with only a south east frickin gale and my French lessons on my IPOD for Company.
It was a bit drizzily until Alfie passed me heading up the Kilmac overpass.
By the time I got to Djouce it had turned into a full on horizontal storm .
Alfie didn't need much convincing not to take on Maulin.
So off we went up and down XTpuddilyC, up the Doubletrack and in to bulldog, it was completely dark in there and not one bit enjoyable !!
Out the end and across Robinsold/new track and on to Toro.
Up Toro on to the Fireroad and onto GC.
Up the Foreroad and down BC, SOBC and into Powerscourt.
There was a moments reprieve before the frickin heavens opened, even my eyeballs were drowning !!
Up the Earls drive and back down Toro, Gwangi and Alfie took to the safety of his car and I lit on home Via the backroads to Kilcroney and on to the N11 ..
but by the time I got to Shankill my legs were frozen solid and were starting to cease working, Its times like this I remember Ron Fawcett on Lord of the Flies in 1979 stuck on the crux, being filmed for the BBC and whispering desperatley " come on arms do your stuff !!"
I was doing the same with my legs ! Its bad news as a Cyclist when your legs decide they've been abused too much and abandon you.
at this stage I had reached the limit of saturation any living thing can endure.
But I ground away at the little hill up to the Loughlinstown junction using whatever blood reserves I had left in my Testicles !! a trick I learned on the very first Army Ranger Course way back in '81 in the dark woods of the Glen Of Imall.
I got home at 11.15 and couldn't feel my hands.
Once I got in to the shower I was amazed to see all the old wounds on my legs show up in stark relief as the hot water did its job..
I don't know how my legs still work..they are like a patchwork map of some bizarre purple planet with my knees the most purple of all !!
Kinda freaky !!
I'm only warning up now !!
and mission impossible is on the Telly !! I was never so happy to see home !!

I had a massive huck to splat on Gwangi ! the back wheel just wiped out and I hit the ground like a ton of bricks.
I was hoping to beat Don and his ilk to death with my theory on its not the tyre its the rider but having beaten myself to a pulp every time I go out on it , I don't think my body will thank me for anymore crashes.
However I am still pretty sure I can make it work..maybe I just haven't crashed enough !!
I cannot wait till we're doing these spins in blazing sunshine and drifty dustiness !!!
Getting soaked on my way to lunch today was anvantureus enough for me, I think I'll be doing the intervals on the turbo today.
