Quick question about categories for CI licence,

- Undecided between and A2 and A3 licence, if I register for an A3 licence can I still sign on and race as A2 (xc and road)? Im assuming having either will mean i cant sign on as A4 on the road?

as far as i know you wont be let down grade on the road but you can usually upgrade
as for xc i dont think it will matter what it says on your licence this year

What I understand from this is that you have to ride the cat you have on your license (you either asked for it or were upgraded from a lower cat). Not sure if you can upgrade on your own, you probably need to get some points and you'll be moved up automaticaly. You definitely can't go down, unless you get CI's approval

Ted..you're an A3 baby..trust me.
Don't race A2 unless you've been upgraded in to it. I know enough about the roadie world to know this.

I know Id be A3 on the road, so Im assuming this should be roughly same as old Expert cat in XC...

Depends how confident you feel on a mountain bike, you have defo enough power/endurance in your legs for S2

I didn't think your road cat. had anything to do with your MTB cat. - there is no option of MTB cat. on the licence application.

You are correct Redser,MTB has nothing to do with the Road,for 2011 the MTB cat is voluntary,from 2012 everyone in MTB will be assigned their Cat.

theres absolutely no relation between the two and Ted..race A3 on the road and senior 2 on the mtb.
Don't pay any attention to anybody who is not your Club Coach and doesn't know you !
A2 on the road is way beyond anybody in EPIC other than John Doris and Morty. Its nothing to do with fitness its more to do with experience.
What people are neglecting to realise is the amount of tactics in Road racing that only comes from racing in it.
And as Mountainbikers you are going to be instantly targeted for abuse if anything goes wrong.
I know A1 Cats who are woeful on the MTB and i know Sports class MTBers who have won A3.
