SRAM X9 v XT

What's the view of our gurus on SRAM X9 shifter and rear mech V XT?

I'm had XT forever so know nothing about SRAM.

Someone planted an idea in my head and damn them I'm intrigued.

Anyone else? Preferably without rabies.

I'd go with a 2011 X7 cheaper and still does the same job as an X9
be a real man and get a twist shifter for it while you are at it

Its all about the cable pull ratio..

Sram = 1:1
Shimano = 2:1

or

Sram = easy to set up & work with, low maintenance, fit and forget..
Shimano = fiddly to set up, constant maintenance, fit and fiddle after very spin..

Shimano - no shouting and kicking
Sram - you never know what gear you're in and no matter how much shouting and kicking still shifts like Mickky in a Hoorehouse !!

Since G-Mac fitted all my lovely X-O stuff last year i've not had to make one single adjustment!!!Ive never slipped a gear or had to ghost shift,its faultless. And Gripshift is the dogs bollix...small cog to big cog in one rip!! or vice versa. You just cant beat it.

The more I think about it the more I realise my life with Shimano has been plagued with indexing issues, and my gears have been set up by the best.

Don't think I could ever go twisty though Fergal, did that with a 3 speed Sturmey Archer back in the day, never again.

Also one obvious difference is that X9 is available 2x10 while XT is not!

twist grip is for people who don't know how to use their hands !! SRAM is very beautiful though..

Seriously though, give me the season to comment on SRAM truthfully as I've only just started using it.
Shimano may yet be shown the door !!

I just can't believe I've wasted twice as much time shifting 2:1 when I could have been 1:1 and going twice as fast or something.

Yep... I have the same experience myself... that's why I will always always always choose Sram over Shimano.. once fit and tuned correctly you never need touch it... even when its clogged with dirt, mud and sh!te..

I agree wholeheartedly with you on the Gripshift as well.... its always overlooked but performance wise its hard to beat... even the top end X0 and XX triggers shifters have a hard time competing with it..

Dump your fiddly fussy Shimano kack Don.... its like going tubeless for the first time... once you try it.. its impossible to go back.. and you'll be wondering why you've wasted so many precious biking hours using Shimano rubbish..

I wonder if they can get 4 rings up front so we can have 40 gears...!!

Jesus you're some slave to Gooberism..do you need a list, are you incapable of figuring stuff out for yourself..I've always used Shimano because Its always worked for me ( except the sh1t hubs and chains and low end fishing reels)
This year however I chose a Sram equipped race bike X0 so I can decide for real..after all I don't just flick through the Internet pulling the wilbert off myself because Heimlich van Noodle of the Internerd geeks society of cycling fiends says SRAM is better because it has 2.1 instead of 1.1 like a proper bike.
What exactly does that mean exactly..when you're bike is caked in muck and the only option is to keep pedalling or die, then its not science thats going to save you, its Magic !!
Gerrys wrong, Shimano is better, trust me. He hasn't a clue, he doesn't even work in the bike trade FFS. If he was as deadly as you think he is, Bicycle shops the world over would be looking to employ him but no, he works in the Bank deciding who gets a Mortgage and who doesn't ! thats how evil he is !
