Now a friend of mine is organising a trip to Moab in September, hes heading over himself, hes been there loads of times and is a bit of an expert on the place. Now hes thinking it would save a few dollars by going with a group so heres his plan.

Hi ya Richie i dropped you a mail on FB a week or so ago.Like i said in the mail i am going to US for a Mountain Holiday in late September, until early October. I have been to the US in 1999,2000,2001,2003,2005,and 2007. All of these were based in and around either Colorado or Utah.
The trip i am planning is based in Utah, but mainly around Moab in Utah. What i am looking for is to see if anyone in Ireland fancies a holiday of a lifetime. What i would like to do is offer a package for anyone that fancies coming. I hope you don't mind me contacting you, but when i think of what i call Mtb'ing and who best to contact in Ireland only one name springs to mind, and that is yours.
I'll just let you know very quickly about what i want out of this trip, fun, challenging rides, see some of the breathe taking sights offered in the areas i will be going. And do the '24 hrs of Moab' Mtb bike race on the 8th-9th of October. Here is the link http://grannygear.com/Races/Moab/index.shtml .I'm just doing this race for the fun and experience of it, i have been in Moab before when this race was on and it is a great event. If people want to come and not race it, that doesn't matter because i know all best trails in the area.
The plan i have in my mind is this. It will be either a 15 days or 3 week holiday. I'll briefly tell you the 15 days , if can people want to do this, and can do it.
Sept 30th-Fly to Las Vegas, get straight out of La Vegas and stop in a Casino in Mesquite on the Nevada/Utah border.
Oct 1st-Build bike up in Hotel room,then travel to Zion National Park.This is 78 miles in distance.On the way stop at Walmarts on the way and buy camping gear,we get camping gear for about $100.Then continue then ride 'Gooseberry Mesa' trail just outside Zion National park. Ride the trail, Which is just a excellent trail, and the views are just breathe taking, so is the drive upto trail head. Once the ride is over Go pitch camp in Zion National Park, chill out eat out, or have BBQ at campsite.
Oct 2nd-Break camp,head off nice and early,drive to Red canyon,only 70 miles.Then ride Red canyon trail, this is a unbelievable trail, as you ride through the Hoodoo's one of my favorite trails.Then when finished drive onto Bryce Canyon and Pitch camp in the National Park. Then chill, or go for a walk down into the National Park, more than likely be a BBQ dinner, few beers, camp fire, etc.
Oct 3rd-Either have a lay in or go for a walk into the canyon, this place i think is more beautiful than the Grand Canyon. Once back from walk or just chilling out it is time to head off on the longest day travelling. Its just under 300 miles from Bryce canyon to Moab, take the scenic highway(the views here are amazing), Will be about 6hrs, stops on the way for food, stretch legs, etc. Arrive in Moab, get food, and have more beer.

Oct 5th-Moab.
Oct 6th-Fruita ride.
Oct 7th-Moab.
Oct 8th-Moab.24hrs of Moab
Oct 9th-Moab.24hrs of Moab
Oct 10th-Moab. Last days biking while in US
Oct 11th-Travelling day,big day from Moab to Grand Canyon(south Rim),go around Monument Valley on the way(where John Wayne's films were filmed), camp in National Park
Oct 12th-Spend the Day,around Grand canyon walk down into the Canyon, camp in Canyon or go into Flagstaff and stay in Hotel and go out for night out,
Oct 13th-Set off for Las Vegas, nice gentle drive back to Vegas. Stop in Vegas chill out and get ready for big days traveling back to Ireland.
Oct 14th-Fly back to Ireland.Flights normally leave in the afternoon.
Flights are about 750 euros for a flight. If people are interested i will give them a price. The more people come the cheaper it becomes. I will be booking my flight in Late June, you tend to get the best prices then. The nights that are camp nights is cheap, getting camping gear is cheap in US, just look on Walmart website. While in Moab i will be stopping in Motel, these are about $120 per night, but that based on 3 people sharing, so about $40 per night. Hope you don't mind me sending you this. Like i said if people don't fancy doing the 24hrs race, they can just enjoy the other trails locally, i will do the race even if i have to do it solo, but if we can put together a team i have no problem doing it in a team either. I'll let you get on now, and if you don't mind i'll mail you a complete break down in a few weeks, with prices,etc...
