ETNA MARATHON
COMPETITION REGULATIONS 2011
Mongibello Mtb Team ASD is organizing on Saturday May 14th, the 5th edition of the Etna Marathon.
Courses
There are three courses:
Marathon: 70 km. 2250 metres of climbing
Gran Fondo: 49 km 1500 metres of climbing
Escursione: 23 km. 600 metres of climbing
All the courses will start and finish from Piazza Belvedere in the town of Milo.
Please pay particular attention to the turn off for the Gran Fondo/Marathon which is 28 km
after the start.
Participation
The race is open to both male and female cyclists who have an FCI/UCI licence or similar
(GB/Irish racing licence) licences which are valid for 2011 belonging to the below mentioned racing categories. Non-racers or excursionists may also take part (aged 16+). However, it will be necessary to sign a statement that riders are in good health.

Men: Open (Elite/under 23), Elite Sport (19/29), Master 1 (30/34), Master 2 (35/39), Master 3 (40/44), Master 4 (45/49), Master 5 (50 /54), Master 6 ( 55 +)
Women: Open (Elite/under 23), Master W1 (19 /39), Master W2 (40 +)
Gran Fondo:
Men: Junior (17/18) Elite Sport (19/29), Master 1 (30/34), Master 2 (35/39), Master 3 (40/44), Master 4 (45/49), Master 5 (50 /54), Master 6 ( 55 +)
Women: Junior (17/18) Master W1 (19 /39), Master W2 (40 +)
Please note that anybody in the above categories who opts to do the Escursione course will be out of the competition.
Escursione:
Men and women (aged 16+), non-competition
Time limit: (only for Marathon and Gran Fondo courses)
Cubania - km 17: 11h45’
I Due Monti – km 28: 12h45’ (only Marathon)
Milo (finish) – km 72: 17h00’
Safety Measures:
All riders must wear a cycling helmet during the race. Anybody who is seen not wearing a helmet will be disqualified. The event will take place both on public and private roads. All riders must respect the Italian highway code. Furthermore, the rules set down by the FCI and UCI must be respected.
Nature conservancy:
Littering and leaving behind waste along the course is not permitted. Waste bins are at he disposal of the bikers next to the feed zones. Non-observance of these regulations will lead to disqualification.

All entrants will receive a goody bag containing 1 bottle of wine Az. Vinicola Gambino, Etna marathon bag and hat, sports drink, energy bar, sweets, voucher for pasta party and massage.
Feed zones
There will be four food zones situated along the course and one at the end of the race +
pasta party with cheese and wine.
Medical Assistance
Two teams of medics will be on the course.
Prizes
The first five overall on both distances, Marathon and Gran Fondo, will get a trophy.
The first three of each category will get a hamper containing local delicacies, such as olive oil, wine etc. and a trophy

From Catania airport: Head towards Messina taking the A18 motorway. Take Giarre exit
and follow signs for Milo (7km from motorway exit).
