No NPS or road races this weekend. Anyone know anything about the Connacht League in Moycullen this Saturday? Is it worth the drive?

I dont konw if Darren is still organizing the Connacht league.
If im being honest it wouldnt be worth a drive down from Dublin.
The race wouldnt be more than an hour long and the track is quite short.
Its quite new and i havint even done a full lap on it.
Any othe questions fire away.

i also emailed that guy , no reply. My question was is it open to everyone (ie. not just connacht based people) and what are the categories if any?
it doesn't matter where you are from you can enter Cycling Ireland events. Its up to regional commissions to allow you points or not.
I would say Handlebars McGann is still in charge..ring him !!
Its a beautiful part of Ireland and you can always drop in to Moycullen Bike Works on the way home !!

Connemara MTB are hosting the race for Connacht cycling, you can view their site here:

Here is a Google map link to where the race is, just enter where you are leaving from in box A.

Sign on with be in the morning of the race at 10am. The entry fee will be €10 and if you don't have a Cycling Ireland licence you will need to take out a one day licence.
The one day licence will cost €20, but you can get the €20 off a full racing licence from Cycling Ireland.
We'll have underage, Junior, Novice, Sports and Expert categories on the day.
Because it is a Connacht league, the entry fees go into a prize fund for trophies at the end of the season prize giving, so there won't be prizes on the day ! But come over and make a weekend of it because the Derroura MTB trail centre is 20 mins away as well an excellent trail by Connemara in Ross Wood (where the Connacht Champs will be later in the year) 10 mins away.
The track is a 3km lap.

Hi there - in relation to the Connaught League MTB race at the weekend, we're not actually hosting the race. Connaught Cycling run these races and don't involve the clubs (just use our trails) - hence the race series being run on Saturdays to suit the road cycling calendar. It is a pity to hear that their won't be any prizes on the day - you'd think that they might at least offer the cost of entry? They have asked to run the race on some of the trails we are developing in Moycullen. It is only a 3.5k loop at the moment - but will continue to be extended over the summer.
It is a long way to travel for this event - especially considering the trails ye have available on your side of the country, but if you were to combine it with the bikeweek event "Big Air in the Square" slopestyle/freeride event being hosted by MBW/Elevate Promotions/ConnemaraMTB on Sunday (see www.elevatepromotions.ie) aswell as a couple of laps around our club trail in Rosscahill Woods (map on www.connemaramtb.com) which is an old school 8km tight-rocky-rooty-slippy trail, then it might be worth a trip? That is of course providing it doesn't continue to rain until then .......
We're always happy to show people around some of the trails if you drop us a line.

Thats fantastic info there Conor, we'll take you up on that offer of a Tour very soon, I'd be there this weekend only I am involved with a Demo day in Ticknock !
